The article employs an analytical approach to examine intergovernmental relations between Serbia and the Republic of North Macedonia in 2024, demonstrating the persistent relevance of the “patron-client” model within the Western Balkans region. The study identifies systematic attempts by Serbia to subjugate the Republic of North Macedonia as a client state. In 2024, Belgrade exerted patronage pressure on all three governments that ruled in Skopje: the coalition led by SDSM; the caretaker government; and the coalition led by VMRO – DPMNE.
